Animal classification cards

These animal cards in 3-parts are a fantastic Montessori material or homeschool biology activity for your child to learn about classifying vertebrates and invertebrates. They consist of the two most common phyla and eight classes with four animals in each.

The label cards are color-coded to their type and have a colored dot for determining the phyla (vertebrates or invertebrates). This assists younger kids to arrange the cards with minimal help from parents or a control chart. The ideal age for these cards is 3-6 years but even older kids can find them useful and engaging for their science studies.

Vertebrates:

Mammals: dog, tiger, rabbit, deer

Birds: parrot, owl, flamingo, parakeet

Fish: shark, clownfish, lionfish, seahorse

Amphibians: frog, toad, salamander, blindworm

Reptiles: snake, lizard, tortoise, crocodile

Invertebrates:

Arthropods: butterfly, ladybug, spider, crab

Mollusks: snail, octopus, squid, slug

Cnidarians: sea anemones, coral (hard and soft), jellyfish
